Falling Boundaries

Among the countless consequences of the health crisis on our daily lives, our relationship to time has probably been the most impacted one. The time dedicated to work has become so liquid it has invaded all other areas. As a result: the notion of office as a place out of home has totally disappeared. From now on, we think of work from anywhere, at any time. No wonder a start-up called Kabin has decided to set up work cabins in public places.
The first specimen was born in a Daily Monop’ store in the Ternes district of Paris, and made the buzz. Created to sell takeout or eat in lunches, the Daily Monop’ stores have been directly impacted by the health crisis and had to focus on takeout options. The space imagined by Kabin comes to their rescue by kindling the desire to go there… to work. “A real neighborhood office” (according to the press release) it is possible to book for 15 €/hour via an app. The following projects will offer a subscription. The start-up targets those who are tired of working from home and need to go out, independent workers and sales persons who don’t (or no longer) have an office and need such a place. So, quite a lot of people.
Boundaries are falling, now is the time of mergers. Hotels were already looking like homes. And the look and atmosphere of homes made them resemble offices. Or the opposite. The CEO of the Accor Group recently announced its ambition to address those who don’t wish to spend a night in their establishments. The concept of dual-residence is growing as a new art of living. The principle is to live in another place than home during a longer period than a weekend, and in similar comfort conditions. Is the appearance of “work friendly” stores so surprising from these places that dream of being full of life?
The next stage is: work spaces at the hairdresser’s and even cafés in banks and restaurants in car dealerships.

So What ?

New ways to create bonds with customers, new rituals for employees... universes are merging also to re-kindle our daily lives and to favor the advent of the world of tomorrow... Imagine!
